Claude Code for people who don’t call themselves developers

How I use Claude Code to build real tools — and the habits that keep it from going off the rails.

Claude Code is Anthropic’s coding agent. It lives in your terminal, reads your project, edits files and runs commands — and you steer it in plain English.

Why it’s different

Most AI coding help is copy-paste: ask a question, get a snippet, figure out where it goes. Claude Code works inside your project. It can look around, make the change across several files, run it, see what broke and fix it. You review and approve.

How I actually use it

Small internal tools. Scripts that clean up data before it goes into n8n. Landing pages. Quick prototypes to test an idea before I commit to it. Stuff that used to take a weekend now takes an afternoon.

Habits that make it work

1. Describe the outcome, not the code 2. Ask for a plan before it starts 3. Keep tasks small 4. Read the changes before you accept them

One more: add a CLAUDE.md file to your project with notes on how things are set up and what to avoid. Claude Code reads it every time, so you stop repeating yourself.

Where it fits with automation

n8n is great at connecting apps. Claude Code is great at building the custom bits n8n can’t do on its own. Put them together and there’s not much you can’t automate.
